Guha, Avirup MD.png

Avirup Guha, MD, MPH, FACC, FICOS

Dr. Guha is an Assistant Professor of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Cleveland, OH, and a consultant cardiologist in the Harrington Heart and Vascular Institute. He is an expert in cardiovascular epidemiology pertaining to cardio-oncology. Specifically, he is interested in the use of deep learning in reducing the redundancy and error in cardiac care of patients (especially those with cancer). He is an avid coder and has created the Cardioonc bot (https://twitter.com/cardioonc_bot) using Python to spread cardio-oncology knowledge using the Twitter bot platform. Many of Dr. Guha's research projects have used supervised and unsupervised machine learning algorithms along with traditional biostatistical techniques. He firmly believes that, if we are able to repeat scientific studies with higher fidelity and accuracy with machine learning techniques, it is not only good for science but validates the approaches to have greater buy-in from ML - "non-believers".

Additionally, Dr. Guha is also the population science principal investigator of one of the American Heart Association's Strategically Focussed Research Network Grants in Disparities in Cardio-oncology. Additionally, he is a member of the JACC: Cardio-oncology and ICOS SoMe working groups.
